The reserve team earns its first victory, while the Juvenil A team loses to Antequera CF

The reserve team secured its first victory of the 2026/2027 season this Sunday after defeating CD Athletic de Coín 1-0 at Francisco Muñoz Pérez Stadium. Carlos Díaz’s team had to play more than an hour of the match with one fewer player, but they managed to hold onto the lead they secured in the opening minutes and earn three important points on Matchday 4 of the 1st Andalusian Senior League in Málaga.
Meanwhile, the Youth A team was unable to replicate the reserve team’s result and lost 0-2 to Antequera CF on Matchday 4 of the 2nd Andalusian Youth League in Málaga. The Estepona team faced one of the toughest opponents in the division, though they ultimately paid the price for their inability to capitalize on the chances they created and conceded two goals to the visitors.
The reserve team earns its first win
The match between the reserve team and CD Athletic de Coín got off to the best possible start for the home side. Barely two minutes had passed when a cross from the wing resulted in a header by Antonio Guerrero Arana that ended up in his own net.
The goal allowed the reserve team to take the lead practically from the start, although the match was subsequently marked by an event that significantly influenced its course: the ejection of Lautaro Genghini in the 5th minute, which left Carlos Díaz’s team with ten players for practically the entire match.
Despite being a man down, the reserve team managed to hold onto its lead. During the first half, the Estepona side showed a good ability to build plays and control possession, though it struggled to convert that dominance into clear scoring chances. The team had difficulty finding the final pass and turning its territorial dominance into clear scoring opportunities.
The 1-0 score at halftime ended up being the final result.
After the break, the match became more challenging for the reserve team due to their numerical disadvantage. Athletic de Coín had more opportunities to control the game, while the home team had to make a significant defensive effort to preserve their lead.
The Estepona team, despite not playing at their best during parts of the second half, managed to hold on and keep a clean sheet until the final whistle.
Thus, the reserve team secured its first victory of the season, following a start to the season in which it had recorded one win, one draw, and two losses by the end of the fourth matchday, placing it in 11th place with 4 points.

Pomares and Ties Bring Experience to the Reserve Team
The match was also marked by the presence of David Pomares and Ties Johannes, players who are regulars on the first team and who played for the reserve team this matchday.
Their presence provided a significant boost to Carlos Díaz’s squad, bringing experience and quality to a team that is still in the midst of growing and adapting to the competition.
The coaching staff believes there is still room for improvement and expects the team to evolve as the season progresses. The immediate goal is to continue accumulating playing time, build competitive rhythm, and use this first victory as a springboard to improve their standing in the standings.

The Juvenil A Team Falls Short Against a Solid Antequera CF
Next, the Juvenil A team faced Antequera CF at the same venue. The match, part of the fourth round of the 2nd Andalusian Youth League in Málaga, started late due to the length of the previous game between the Reserve Team and Athletic de Coín.
The kickoff was initially scheduled for 6:00 p.m., although the match ultimately began around 6:30 p.m.
Antequera CF showed from the very start that they would be a tough opponent. The visiting team managed to take control at various points in the match and scored the first goal in the 26th minute, when Iván García Velasco put the score at 0-1.
The Juvenil A team tried to respond and had stretches where they managed to take control of the game. The Estepona-based team sought to keep possession, advance up the field, and create chances, even generating several clear opportunities in the first half that they failed to convert.
A lack of finishing touch ended up being one of the main problems for the home team.
The team coached by Carlos García entered the match with a young roster that included several first-year players. This commitment to younger players within the category brings talent and room for growth, though it also requires an adjustment period to a competition in which physicality, experience, and the ability to compete in every duel play a significant role.
After halftime, the Juvenil A team once again tried to change the momentum of the match and enjoyed a strong stretch, seeking to take control and push into Antequera’s penalty area.
However, just as the Estepona team was trying to mount a comeback, they suffered a second blow. In the 56th minute, Juan Pablo Godoy extended Antequera CF’s lead to 0-2.
From that point on, the Juvenil A team continued to try to mount a comeback, though the score had already become an uphill battle. The visiting team managed to defend its lead and ultimately took home the three points from the Francisco Muñoz Pérez stadium.
A Young Team Seeking to Gain Competitive Experience
The Juvenil A coaching staff recognizes that the team has young, talented players but believes they still need to gain experience and competitive know-how to handle certain moments in matches.
The Estepona team had some strong stretches and tried to take control of the match, but their inability to capitalize on the chances they created and the goals they conceded ultimately determined the outcome.
In a team with many young players, situations like failing to capitalize on opportunities can also affect the rest of the match, especially when the opponent manages to take the lead.
The goal now is to keep working, improve competitiveness, and ensure that the squad’s talent translates into better results in the coming matchdays.
Two Different Matches for CD Estepona’s Youth Teams
Matchday 4 thus left mixed feelings for the two main youth teams of CD Estepona.
The reserve team secured a victory that was particularly commendable given the circumstances of the match. An own goal by Antonio Guerrero just two minutes in allowed Estepona to take the lead, and after Lautaro Genghini was sent off in the 5th minute, the team had to hold on for over an hour with ten players to preserve the 1-0 lead.
The win gives Carlos Díaz’s team its first three points, bringing their total to 4 points, with a record of one win, one draw, and two losses after four matchdays.
The reserve team’s next match will take place on Saturday, October 10, when they visit CD Campanillas, currently ranked seventh with 7 points, thanks to two wins, one draw, and one loss. The match presents an opportunity for the Estepona team to continue climbing the standings.
Meanwhile, the Juvenil A team will need to bounce back from their loss to Antequera CF and continue their development. At the conclusion of the fourth matchday, the Estepona team sits 14th in the standings with 1 point, having recorded one draw and three losses in their four matches played.
The next matchday will take place on Saturday, October 10, when the Youth A team faces CD EF José Santacruz. The match will be particularly important as it pits them against a direct rival, which has the same record as the Estepona team, though with one fewer game played. The match presents a key opportunity for the team to earn points and begin climbing the standings.
The youth of the roster represents an investment in the future, but the team needs to gradually translate its talent into consistency and results.
The season is still long, and both teams have many matchdays ahead of them to continue improving.
