The draw against Ciudad de Lucena (2-2) has once again highlighted a trend that had already become apparent, especially in previous home matches. Missed opportunities are impacting the results for the red-and-white team.

History repeated itself. CD Estepona learned once again that dominating possession, creating chances, and taking the lead aren't always enough to win a match . The draw against Lucena left a bitter taste at the Francisco Muñoz Pérez stadium and reopened a debate that has become all too common this season: the difficulty of converting their attacking superiority into results.

What happened last Saturday is not an exception in Estepona's trajectory this season. A quick look back reveals several matches where the team had enough chances to take control of the game, but ended up complicating matters or letting points slip away.

In the second match, against Linares Deportivo , Manolo Sánchez's team took the lead and had several opportunities to extend their advantage. They failed to capitalize and ultimately paid the price: the mining side turned the game around just before halftime and went on to win convincingly 1-4 at the Francisco Muñoz Pérez stadium.

The story also had a different outcome against CD Don Benito . CD Estepona took the lead again in the 45th minute and, after halftime, created numerous chances to increase their advantage. However, their lack of clinical finishing allowed the Extremadura side to equalize in the 70th minute. On that occasion, the home team reacted and ended up winning 3-1 , but the match once again served as a warning: missed opportunities can change the course of a game.

A week later, against Club Atlético Central , CD Estepona again gave the impression of being unable to shake off their opponent, despite ultimately securing a 3-2 victory. Estepona took the lead once more, but were unable to extend their advantage, and the Seville-based team managed to equalize twice. This time, the outcome favored the home side, although the match again demonstrated their difficulty in managing a lead.

These precedents are in addition to the goalless draws against Xerez CD on the opening day and against Marbella FC . In both matches, CD Estepona created numerous opportunities, especially in the first half, but failed to find the back of the net. In both instances, their lack of clinical finishing left the team's attacking efforts unrewarded.

Creating chances is not enough

The common denominator in these matches is clear. CD Estepona has the ability to reach the opponent's area, create danger, and take the lead, but they are finding it difficult to convert those opportunities into sufficient advantages to allow them to face the final minutes with greater peace of mind.

The problem, therefore, lies not only in creating chances, but also in capitalizing on moments when the game offers the possibility of being practically decided . Missing a chance is part of the game; however, repeating that lack of accuracy in several matches suggests that the team has an area for improvement.

The Costa del Sol side learned once again that missed opportunities can be costly. Against Ciudad de Lucena, that lack of clinical finishing ultimately resulted in two dropped points . Their attacking output is encouraging, but their inability to close out matches leaves a lingering sense of frustration. Competing well and creating chances is important, but in the end, football holds up a mirror to each team's performance.

Is CD Estepona facing a one-off problem of effectiveness or a trend that is starting to repeat itself too often?
