A First Chapter in History

Next Sunday, CD Estepona will host UD Tamaraceite at the Francisco Muñoz Pérez Stadium. It will be a special match, as it will mark the first official encounter between the two clubs, which have never faced each other before and will now begin to write the history of their rivalry.

Who is UD Tamaraceite?

The club was founded in 1966 and represents the historic Tamaraceite neighborhood in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It plays its home games at the Juan Guedes Municipal Stadium.

Although it has a long history in regional Canarian soccer, its most significant growth has come in recent years. The Tamaraceite team climbed through the ranks until it was crowned champion of the Preferente division in the 2017–18 season and of the Third Division in the 2018–19 season.

This progression allowed the club to reach the former Segunda División B in the 2020–21 season, during which it competed in the third tier of Spanish soccer. However, in the 2021/22 season, it was relegated from the newly created Segunda RFEF, thus returning to island-level soccer in Tercera RFEF.

After several seasons in that division, UD Tamaraceite managed to return to the fourth tier of national soccer in June 2026, after defeating CD Guijuelo in the decisive promotion playoff match, following a comeback that returned the club to Segunda RFEF 1,498 days after its last match in that division.

How Their Season Is Going

The return to Segunda Federación is proving to be anything but easy for the Gran Canaria-based team. After the first nine matchdays, they sit in seventeenth place with six points, the result of two wins and seven losses.

Their league debut ended in a home loss to Sevilla Atlético (0-1). They subsequently lost to Atlético Sanluqueño (1-0), Recreativo de Huelva (1-3), and CP Mijas Las Lagunas (6-2).

Their first win came on Matchday 5, with a 1-0 victory over Atlético Antoniano. Later, they lost again in Puente Genil (1-0), though they achieved one of their best results by defeating Betis Deportivo 3-2 after coming back from a two-goal deficit. The last two matchdays have also been far from favorable, as they lost 1-0 to Club Atlético Central and 1-3 to Xerez CD.

On offense, they have scored eight goals, while conceding a total of eighteen. This record reflects the difficulties they are facing in their return to the division.

A Team Looking to Find Its Footing

UD Tamaraceite arrives in Estepona needing points to climb out of the relegation zone. Its recent promotion and experience in national-level soccer are two factors that explain the enthusiasm with which it is approaching this new phase.

For CD Estepona, this will be an opportunity to return to winning ways after the setback in Lebrija, where the refereeing will go down in history as the worst our club has ever faced.

There are no previous matchups between the two teams. On Sunday, the first chapter of a story that, for now, is a blank slate will be written.
