CD Estepona secured an important 0-2 victory over Salerm Puente Genil this Saturday at Manuel Polinario Stadium in the match corresponding to Matchday 3 of Group IV of the Segunda Federación. The Estepona team earned all three points thanks to goals by Pablo Aguilar, on a penalty kick, and Pablo Arriaza, who sealed the win with a true masterpiece of a goal in stoppage time.

The victory also holds special significance for the Estepona team, as it marks the first time CD Estepona has defeated Salerm Puente Genil in their three head-to-head matches. So far this season, Manolo Sánchez’s team had recorded one draw and one loss, so this win marks a turning point for the Málaga-based side.

Pablo Aguilar puts CD Estepona ahead from the penalty spot

The match began evenly at the Manuel Polinario Stadium. The first yellow card was issued in the 16th minute to Ginés Conesa, while CD Estepona gradually gained the upper hand as the minutes passed.
In the 22nd minute, the Estepona side was awarded a golden opportunity from the penalty spot. Pablo Aguilar stepped up and didn’t miss, sending the ball low and tight to the right post to make it 0-1.

Salerm Puente Genil Seeks the Equalizer

After returning from the locker room, both teams made substitutions. For CD Estepona, Alberto González and Ale Contreras came on to replace Bakary Sow and Héber Pena.
The home team had one of its best chances in the 49th minute, when Salva Vegas picked up a loose ball inside the box and took a point-blank shot, though his attempt sailed over the crossbar.
CD Estepona also had chances to seal the win. Shortly after the start of the second half, Sandji Baradji and Pablo Aguilar came close to scoring the second goal.
Manolo Sánchez continued to make substitutions during the second half. Nacho Ramón replaced Pablo Aguilar in the 70th minute, while Jorge Álvarez later came on for David Ballarín. Late in the game, Pomares replaced Julen Jon.

Arriaza Seals the Deal with a Stunner

Salerm Puente Genil pushed for the equalizer in the final minutes, but CD Estepona managed to hold onto its lead and control the game.
The referee added six minutes of stoppage time, and just as the match seemed headed for a 0-1 final score, the decisive goal came.
In the 96th minute, Pablo Arriaza stepped up to make it 0-2 with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box. The CD Estepona player found the back of the net and put the finishing touch on an important night for the Estepona squad.

With the final whistle, CD Estepona defeated Salerm Puente Genil 0-2 and secured three important points on Matchday 3 of the Segunda Federación.
Goals by Pablo Aguilar and Pablo Arriaza allowed the Costa del Sol team to secure a victory that also breaks the pattern of previous matchups between the two teams.
Third time’s the charm. After two losses, CD Estepona managed to beat Salerm Puente Genil for the first time—and did so while keeping a clean sheet.
