CD Estepona head coach Manolo Sánchez addressed the media at the press conference ahead of the match against UD Tamaraceite, part of Matchday 10 of Group IV of the Segunda Federación. The Estepona team will host the Canarian side this Sunday, November 8, at 12:00 p.m., at the Francisco Muñoz Pérez Municipal Stadium, with the goal of getting back on the winning track after their last loss.

The Rojillo coach conveyed a message of confidence, calm, and unity, emphasizing the importance of staying the course and regaining energy to face the upcoming league match.

A Tamaraceite Team with Talent and the Ability to Create Danger

Manolo Sánchez expects a challenging match against an opponent he has described as a team with a great deal of individual talent, the ability to link up well, and the courage to play the ball.

The coach believes both teams will look to take control of the match and has warned that CD Estepona will have to play at their best to secure the three points.

When asked about the keys to the match, the coach noted that the goal is to score more goals than the opponent. He also highlighted his team’s offensive capabilities and their intention to continue improving in areas such as crosses from the wings, runs into the box, and pressing the opponent.

He also dismissed the idea that UD Tamaraceite will simply sit back and defend, as he believes they are a team capable of creating danger through their combination play.

Confidence in the Process After the Latest Loss

One of the central topics of the press conference was last weekend’s loss. Manolo Sánchez acknowledged that it was a painful result, though he urged the team to analyze it calmly and without jumping to conclusions.

The coach recalled that last season, after a loss to Puente Genil, the team managed to string together a good run of results. For this reason, he emphasized the need to trust in the work they’ve done and focus exclusively on the next match.

“Anyone who’s getting nervous should have a cup of chamomile tea, and we’ll just keep moving forward,” said the coach, who also asked those around the team to avoid comments and criticism that could create conflict within the squad.

Manolo defended his players’ efforts and highlighted that, since he took over the Estepona squad, the team has suffered only six losses in 31 matches.

The Roster, Ready to Face the Match

As for the mood in the locker room, the coach explained that the players have taken responsibility following the last result and expressed his satisfaction with the group at his disposal.

Regarding possible changes to the starting lineup, Manolo Sánchez acknowledged that he has an idea in mind, though he has yet to decide whether to ultimately implement it. He also made it clear that all players have a chance to see action.

Regarding players on yellow-card warning, he downplayed the situation of those who have accumulated four yellow cards, noting that he has reliable alternatives within the roster.

Furthermore, he explained that receiving a yellow card in the first half does not necessarily mean a player will be substituted at halftime, as each situation must be assessed based on the circumstances of the match and what is best for the team.

Manolo Sánchez Acknowledges the Special Atmosphere at Muñoz Pérez

The match will be played this Sunday at 12:00 p.m., a different time than usual for CD Estepona’s home games. The coach acknowledged that he prefers late-afternoon and evening matches because of the atmosphere created at the Muñoz Pérez Stadium, though he expressed his hope that the fans will turn out in force once again for this occasion.

Manolo Sánchez highlighted the connection between the players and the stands, noting that the energy the crowd transmits also reaches the locker room and can become a key factor during matches.

In this regard, he has asked the fans to stand united with the team and help the players secure a victory that will allow the Estepona squad to continue pursuing its goals:

“Tomorrow, everyone here is an Estepona fan, and from 12 to 2, we have to cheer them on—we have to pitch in.”

Condolences and Remembrance of the Deceased Player

The press conference also included a moment to remember Jesús de Miguel. Manolo Sánchez extended his condolences to family and friends, noting that some members of the squad had played alongside him during their sporting careers.

The coach emphasized that people should always come before soccer and acknowledged that situations like this make one reflect on the importance of the human aspect in sports.
