CD Estepona has already kicked off the second season of its podcast with an interview featuring one of the team’s leading figures: José Antonio Caro, captain of the Estepona squad. The center back was the first guest of this new season, which introduces a video format on YouTube as its main new feature.
During the interview, conducted by Álvaro Carrasco, Caro reflected on the start of the 2026/2027 season, the team’s morale, the loss to CD Tenerife B, the team’s goals, and the importance of CD Estepona’s fans.

Caro Is Confident the Results Will Come

The captain assessed the team’s league start—which, after four matchdays, stands at four points—and felt that the red-and-white squad has created enough chances to have earned more points:

“I’m not worried because I know that the team—based on what I see from the inside and what we’re creating on the field—will start racking up points as soon as we start converting those chances.”

Caro particularly highlighted the team’s work in these early matches and noted that a lack of finishing has been one of the main factors preventing them from achieving better results.
He also assured that the atmosphere in the locker room remains positive and that the new players have quickly integrated into the group and Manolo’s style of play, noting that virtually the entire roster has seen playing time over the first four matchdays.

The Loss to Tenerife B

The captain also analyzed CD Estepona’s most recent match, which ended in a 2-1 loss to CD Tenerife B on Matchday 4.
Caro explained that the team knew they were facing a reserve team with young, talented players, and felt the match could have ended differently. The Estepona native noted that the team had chances to take the lead and regretted that Tenerife B ultimately took home the three points thanks to a second penalty in the final minutes.
For Caro, finishing in the box is making the difference early in the season. The captain emphasized that the team is creating chances and competing well, though he believes they need to keep working to make better use of their opportunities.

CD Don Benito, Next Opponent at the Muñoz Pérez

The interview also served to analyze CD Estepona’s next opponent, CD Don Benito, which will visit the Francisco Muñoz Pérez Stadium on Matchday 5.
Caro highlighted the strong start by the team from Extremadura, which entered this matchday with 10 points and only one goal conceded, and explained that he expects an opponent with experienced players, capable of sitting back and capitalizing on offensive transitions.
Given this approach, the captain considers defensive awareness essential to prevent counterattacks while, at the same time, maintaining CD Estepona’s style of play:

“We’ll continue to stick to our style of play—the one we like, which is an exciting, attacking game that we’re comfortable with.”

Caro Wants to Give the Fans Their First Home Win

Another key topic in the interview was the relationship between the team and the fans. José Antonio Caro acknowledged that there is a lot of excitement about securing CD Estepona’s first home win this season and asked for the fans’ support throughout the entire 90 minutes.
The captain highlighted the growth of the club’s fan base and especially emphasized the support received from fans during away games, including the trip to Tenerife.
Caro also spoke about his relationship with Estepona, where he is entering his third season, and explained that since his arrival he has felt very loved by the city and its fans.

“A 10 out of 10 locker room”

When asked about the squad that has been assembled for the 2026/2027 season, Caro was unequivocal:

“For me, a 10 out of 10 locker room.”

The captain highlighted the continuity of much of the roster from last season and how quickly the new players have adapted. For Caro, maintaining a good team dynamic and healthy competition within the squad is one of the key factors for tackling the season.
He also highlighted the mix of young and veteran players, noting that the more experienced ones can pass on their knowledge to the younger players, while the younger players bring energy to the day-to-day life of the locker room.

Last Season’s Experience

Caro also recalled the difficult situation the team faced during the 2025–2026 season, especially during the second half of the season, when the team had to compete for months under intense pressure to avoid relegation.
The captain believes that experience can serve as a lesson for dealing with any difficult moments that may arise during the current campaign and highlighted the unity of the locker room as one of the factors that helped the team overcome that situation.

A Season Marked by Enthusiasm

Regarding the goals for the 2026/2027 season, Caro noted that the team is approaching the campaign with enthusiasm and the intention of competing to achieve the objectives set by the club, though he stressed the importance of focusing on each matchday.
The captain also explained why he chose to remain with CD Estepona after extending his contract and expressed his satisfaction at staying with the Estepona team for another season.
