Tonight's match will pit CD Estepona against Xerez CD at our stadium, the Francisco Muñoz Pérez .

The Jerez team has officially visited Estepona on five recorded occasions , although there are two other visits, corresponding to the 1968-69 and 1969-70 seasons, whose results could not be verified with complete accuracy.

The historical record of matches played in Estepona to date is as follows:

5 matches played
0 wins for CD Estepona
3 draws
Xerez CD 2 wins
3 goals for CD Estepona
6 goals from Xerez CD

Xerez CD , therefore, has never lost in Estepona in these five recorded encounters.

THE FIVE MATCHES

November 17, 1991
CD Estepona 0-2 Xerez

November 22, 1992
CD Estepona 2-2 Xerez

December 19, 1993
CD Estepona 0-1 Xerez

January 26, 2025

February 8, 2026

But if there is one match that holds a special place in the memory of many Estepona fans, it is undoubtedly the 2-2 draw on November 22, 1992 .

That day, Estepona took the lead in the 3rd minute through Juanma . Xerez equalized from the penalty spot in the 30th minute and went ahead in the 57th minute.

Just when it seemed that the three points were slipping away from San Fernando , Joaquín appeared in the 87th minute . The Estepona native executed a powerful free kick that ended up in the back of the net of the good Jerez goalkeeper of that time, Santi Esteban , who could barely react to that absolute thunderbolt.

It was the final 2-2 .

That goal by Juanma also had a historical significance: it was CD Estepona's 100th goal in the Second Division B.

But that game didn't really end with the final whistle.

According to fans who were there that day, Xerez supporters belonging to a young fan group called Ultras Sherry traveled to Estepona. During the match, tensions rose, and according to these accounts, objects and beer cups were thrown at Estepona players and fans.

Joaquín's equalizer in the 87th minute sparked the celebration.

The Estepona fans jumped onto the pitch of the old San Fernando field to celebrate the goal with their players, especially the fans located behind the goal facing the Santo Tomás de Aquino sports center.

And then came the worst part.

Outside the stadium, clashes broke out between fans of both teams. According to eyewitness accounts, several supporters were injured and taken to the hospital in Marbella.

The repercussions of what happened were such that that same night the well-known radio journalist José María García , whose program was one of the most followed at the time, made reference to the incidents that occurred after the meeting.

34 years have passed.

The San Fernando field is still standing, but it's no longer the home stadium for the city's first team. Interestingly, though, just two seasons ago it had to temporarily become CD Estepona's home ground for three matches due to the installation of the new pitch at the Muñoz Pérez stadium.

And the return was positive, one victory and two draws, against three established teams like Balompédica Linense, Linares and Orihuela .

The 1992 match is one of those encounters that those who were there have hardly forgotten.

But precisely for that reason, the memory should also serve as a reminder to look ahead and keep in mind something much more important: it's just football . The rivalry may be intense, the passion enormous, and the colors different, but violence has no place .

Tonight, the Muñoz Pérez stadium will once again be a cauldron of red-clad fans.

The setting for another chapter in the story between CD Estepona and Xerez CD .

The goal: to win in order to change history.
